Kisumu County goes into record as the first county to hold an international conference on affordable housing in Kenya by hosting the 1st Kisumu International Conference on Affordable, a function that was presided over by the Governor of the great county of Kisumu Prof. Anyang' Nyong'o flanked by his Deputy Dr. Ochieng' Owili where they were received by Lawrence Apiyo, Grassroot Trust Coordinator.
The three days conference aims at having candid discussions on how affordable housing can be achieved in Kisumu. The county government of Kisumu will be giving out land as equity towards realization of housing to partners who will provide funding.
Most direct housing programs will be witnessed in the city and satellite urban centres of Ahero, Muhoroni, Awasi, Maseno, Katito and Kombewa.
The county minister of Lands and Housing Dickson Obungu in his address said that as a department they are committed to see atleast 10,000 units of affordable housing put up within the shortest time possible sentiments that were echoed by Madam Ruth Odinga, Governor's Special Advisor on Special Programs.
The Governor reiterated on the importance of maintaining green space in the county as development takes place, this is the only way of ensuring that residents of Kisumu have habitable homes.
